Sarah’s story

We wanted to find a way to welcome our neighbours at Halloween while keeping Jesus at the centre of everything we did.

We bought activity booklets from Houses of Light, filled with stories pointing to the gospel, and prepared some homemade treats, including ghost fudge and autumn leaf biscuits. We also bought glow sticks to give out. The children got involved too, making pictures with messages about Jesus’ love.

We carved pumpkins with different faces, including one featuring three crosses, as a reminder of the hope we have in Jesus.

We shared a post on social media explaining that, as Christians, we don't celebrate Halloween, but we do love welcoming people, giving out treats and taking the opportunity to think about what we believe as a family. We invited our neighbours to come and knock on our door.

And they did! Around 115 people came along. We were able to give out treats and offer activity booklets sharing what we celebrate and believe as Christians.

It was such a lovely opportunity to open our door, connect with our neighbours and share something of our faith. We loved being able to show kindness and hospitality to our community, while keeping Jesus at the heart of it all.
